Faux Stained Glass Votives

DIY VOTIVES

I found this idea for these faux stained glass votives in a craft magazine. They are inexpensive and easy to make.

I have a screened-porch with 8 windows and thought these might look nice lit up at night.

Supply List:
*glass votives
*Mod Podge-glossy
*1/2 inch paint brush
*decorative tissue of your choice
*Clear spray to coat

*tea candles

The glass votives I found at Walmart for .47 cents each. All the other supplies I already had at home. The total cost of the project was under $4.00.

How To Do:

Cut small squares of tissue. Load your brush with some Mod Podge and apply the squares, one at a time. It's fine to overlap the squares. All your squares should be applied to the "outside" of the candle votive, slightly overlapping the top rim. When you are all finished, spray with clear coat to protect your candles.
Here I have them all lined up ready for spraying.
Here is one of them lit up at night. I wish I could have gotten a better photograph of all eight of them at the same time, but the photo I took was not very good.
I have to admit that these 8 little candles look great at night!01 02 03

  2. It really looks nice...especially at night I suppose.
I would love to try it one of these days...the materials look like easy to buy and get.
Thanks for sharing, I love candles and I really think this is a great project.

  3. Very pretty!

I know your bridge has a high pitch, but I think these votives would look beautiful either lining the bridge or somehow suspended.

    The colors are really striking.

  4. Thanks all for the comments. The candles are very easy to make and supplies seemed to be easy to find. I think you could use them anywhere actually.

I also think they would look great by the bridge in the backyard. Too bad I'm the only one that goes out there. My husband and three kids hate the outdoors. Can you believe that? They are really missing out.

  5. I'm in the same boat, Christy. My husband and sons couldn't care less about my gardening and landscaping projects. I've reconciled myself to the fact that I am a solitary gardener at my house.

But, on the flip side, I do whatever I want without having to compromise, hence a profusion of pink roses along the patio! :-)

I agree, they are all missing out!
Your backyard is gorgeous and shows a lot of work and creativity on your part.

  7. Too bad you had to go to WalMart.
There are tons of jars that you could have recycled.
    Capers, Pimientos, Pickles, Relish, Mustard.

  8. Perhaps........but the glass jars were only .47 cents a piece. Unfortunately, I don't eat capers, pimentos or relish. I'm not sure these candles would have looked as nice in a pickle jar.
