Space Above the Cabinets and More Groupings

People really seem to struggle with ideas for decorating above cabinets. If you have soffits above your kitchen cabinets, then you know what I mean. I can't tell you how many times I've arranged, rearranged and struggled to find "just" the right flow. My friend seems to get it right. Here are some photos.

It's all about grouping, themes and spacing. Don't forget to line those tops with newspaper. Once a year, take up the paper and replace. It will save you a ton of work-and boy does it get dusty up there.

  1. I always have such a hard time figuring out what kind of object to put on top of my cabinets. I really dislike fake plants and I feel like that is a staple for so many people's cabinet top design. Do you have any suggestions for objects that take up a lot of space like fake plants?

  2. Megan,
It depends on the "style" that you have in your kitchen. If you have an older look going, look for large plates, antique cans, baskets, and long framed pictures. Some people put little white Christmas lights us there, which looks good too. For a more current look try large pottery, bottles, vases or art work. Group the items together in sections. Then it won't look cluttered.

  3. The newspaper tip is a very good idea. How often do you really ever clean on top of your shelves and cabinets? That extra layer will make cleanup a lot easier.

  4. I always thought of what to do with the top of the cabinet. It is always a challenge. Great work you've done here. Are the bottles glued?

  5. Blue Turtle,
The bottles are not glued, they are just placed up there. Thanks for visiting the site!!

  6. Christy,
my son in law has a lot of beer growlers and beer bottles that are currently just sitting above the cabinets, how would I make that look nice?

  7. I think they would look great!! Place them in groupings and add some vines along the bottom.
