Quickly Organizing Ideas

Organize all those great ideas!

I love sifting through magazines for creative ideas. I admit there have been times that I found some great ideas, ripped them out and lost them. I came up with an idea to keep all those great ideas together.

Eventually, when I get a chance, I go back and find the ideas and actually make them. All it takes is a large binder and a box of clear protective page covers. Rip out your directions, ideas and photos and stuff them inside those protective covers for the future. I've actually kept all my wallpaper and paint samples in here in case, at some point I need them. Here is what it looks like:

Look carefully at the photo below. I found this idea years ago in a home decorating magazine. I decided to give it a try and make some for myself. I thought they were so cute.

These are folk-art skull vessels-great for licorice and candy. These are on my counter top around Halloween. They are actually clay pots painted with white and black acrylic paint.I got the idea from a magazine, held on to it for a few months and then decided to make them. Storage Ideas

Two teenage girls............too little space. Their bathroom has become a dumping ground for so many "beauty" products, hair dryers, flat irons, makeup, brushes, shampoo and never ending bath products.



My solution (and I'm sure I must have seen this somewhere) was to hang a shoe rack behind the bathroom door.

Almost everything goes in here. These shoe racks come in cloth and clear plastic. The clear one seemed like the best option so they could see everything in there. I liked the idea so much that I now have one behind my bathroom door as well. Costs about $10.00 at Walmart.

Get Organized With Your Decorating

Like all the rest of you, I'm pretty busy with my life these days. I really wish I could be more organized, especially when it come to decorating. I'd really love to know what year I painted the den or the master bedroom. Wouldn't it be great to know exactly what paint you used on that particular room or wall so you could touch up things years later?


After all these years of painting and re-decorating rooms I now can be organized. So organized that I have everything I ever did in that room recorded into one book.


I purchased this great organizer a while ago at Home Depot. It has divided sections with pockets for paint chips, pieces of fabric, lined paper for notes and helpful tips for painting. I separated mine into eight sections: kitchen, den, bedrooms, dining room, bathrooms, basement, office and misc.

The book came with several color wheels, two CD's on faux finishes and loads of tips including: choosing a color scheme, priming, getting ready to paint, how to figure out how much paint you need to buy, project list, paint sheens, faux, glazes and disposal tips.

If you can't find one to purchase they are easy enough to make for yourself. A binder, some page projectors, some pocket folders, plain white paper and lined paper. You won't get all the great tips, but you can always get that from other sources. Easy and cheap! The best thing about this is that it keeps everything organized and keeps a record of all the changes you make in your home. A great reference for future projects.

You can use this book for recording other household things so it really comes in handy. Include items like new roof, windows, repairs, filter changes, counters, floors, rugs, etc.....

A really great way to get organized.

Organize your Jewelry

If you have a teenage girl at home, you no doubt have lots of costume jewelry around. Here is a simple and cheap way to keep all of her "bling" organized. This is a CD rack that I purchased at the Goodwill for $2.00. I added "S"hooks (available at the hardware store) to the slats so she could hang earrings, necklaces and other items. If you look closely at the above photograph you will be able to see those hooks. I even screwed in cup hooks on both sides for more hanging space. I mounted this on her bathroom wall so everything stays together. Cheap, convenient and organized.

Easy Frame to Hang Jewelry

Easy To Make and Easy To Hang..............

These great little frames hold all your earrings and look great as well.

The frame above was purchased in the Goodwill for $1.00. Mounted in the background of the frame is drawer liner made by Rubbermaid (you can easily find these liners in Walmart, Target and other retailers). It was mounted on cardboard and the frame was attached. Easy, creative and functional. Oh yeah, cheap too!

The frame to the right (for the teenager's room) was another cheap wood frame painted to match the room with a metallic paint. Fortunately the drawer liner comes in an assortment of colors.

Not a bad idea for a gift either!

If you can't find the shelf liners they sell hard plastic sheets in the craft store (I think they are used for stitching) that would also work.
